Materials

A large array of materials are produced at McCann’s numerous pit locations. Some speciality materials include

Cow Sand – a trusted sand blend used for animal bedding by many area farmers.

Decorative stone – a 2″ – 6″ coloured stone used by many landscaping professionals in the area.

Gravel

Granular “A”

A mixture of sand and crushed/round stone. Particle sizes no larger then 1 inch. It is a load bearing layer, provides drainage, reduces frost action and provides a smooth surface for hard surfacing.

Granular “B”

A mixture of sand and round stone (can be crushed for certain project requests). Particle sizes up to 4 inch. Granular B is a sub-base material, primarily used as a foundation for roads, parking lots and roadways.

Granular M for dense graded aggregates intended for use as granular base within the pavement structure, granular shouldering, and backfill.

Crusher Dust

A combination of stone chips that are approximately ½” in size and screenings. Material is used as a base material for landscaping purposes.

Recycled Concrete

Similar to B Gravel in size. Produced from reclaimed concrete and processed with a crusher. Primarly used as a sub-base material for laneways.

Stone

Pea Stone

Stone approximately half inch or smaller in size. Used for bedding, drainage, landscaping and redimix purposes.

¾” Crushed Stone

Used for laneways, bedding, drainage and redimix purposes.

¾” Round Stone

Used for landscaping, laneways and drainage.

Septic Stone

Stone ranging from ¾” to 1 ¼” in size. Used for bedding, drainage and landscaping purposes.

O Stone

Round stone primarily 4” in size. Used for drainage and landscaping purposes.

Chert Free Stone

Imported impervious stone 3/4” in size. Used for landscaping and redimix purposes.

Decorative Stone

Round coloured stone between 2” – 6” in size. Used primarily for landscaping purposes.

4” to 8” Rip

Larger crushed stone. Used for drainage purposes to help protect from water erosion.

Sand

Brick Sand

Finely screened sand with particles no larger than 4 millimeters. Used primarily as a mortar mix but also works great for sandbox areas.

Filter Sand

Blended sand material used for septic purposes.

Raised bed sand

Screened sand material used for septic purposes.

Screened bedding sand

Screened sand used as a base or bedding material.

Screened redi-mix sand

Screened sand used for redi-mix purposes.

Sandfill

Natural material meaning neither screened or processed. Used primarily as a backfill material.

Cow Sand

Very clean screened sand – Used for animal bedding as it has a low organic-matter contact and contains little to no stone.

Topsoil

Screened Top Soil

Screened  to 1/2″. Used for seeding and sod purposes

Construction grade topsoil

Natural topsoil material. Used for rough grading purposes.

Sand and Gravel Pits

McCann RediMix owns and operates numerous gravel and sand pits. We complete all crushing and screening operations in house with experienced crew and modern equipment.

The company respects all government regulations especially in regards to strict adherence for all environmental guidelines. Once all allowable material has been extracted from a pit a full rehabilitation is completed as per pit licensing requirements. 

Many of our pit locations are operational on a daily basis.  However, always call or email first to confirm specific material availability and location.

Stone Slingers

Our Team of Slingers

Our stone slingers are great for placing material in locations where other trucks or heavy equipment can’t. Slingers reduce labour requirements and increase efficiency for many projects.
